1. BANGLADESH

3. DOMINICA
House of Assembly (a) 21 (known as Elected by universal adult suffrage.
Representatives) 9 Senators may be appointed by the

the Prime Minister and 4 on the
advice of the Leader of the

4. INDIA

5. KENYA
National Assembly (a) 158 Direct election. Simple majority system

President, Speaker and Attorney-General.
6. MALAWI
National Assembly (a) 101 Direct election by simple majority
(b) Any number system in single member constituencies.

7. PAKISTAN
National Assembly (a) 207 207 are directly-elected Muslim
(b) 30 members. Of the remaining 30, 20 are
women members elected by the Assembly

8. SEYCHELLES
National Assembly (a) 23 23 are directly elected and 2 are
(b) 2 appointed by the President to
represent migrant people on the
outer islands.
9. SIERRA LEONE
House of (a) 105 Elected by universal adult suffrage.
Representatives (b) 22 Of the 22 appointees, 10 are chosen
by the President and 12 are Paramount
Chiefs (one from each District).
10. ST VINCENT AND
THE GRENADINES
House of Assembly (a) 13 Direct election. Simple majority vote
(b) 7 in single member constituencies. The
7 appointees include the Attorney-
General if he is not an elected member.
Of the remaining 6, 4 are appointed by
the Governor-General on advice of the
Prime Minister and 2 on advice of the
Leader of the Opposition.
11. SOLOMON ISLANDS
National (a) 38 The 38 are directly elected by universal
Parliament (b) 1 suffrage, simple majority in single
member constituencies. The Attorney-
General is an ex-officio member who
participates without vote.
12. UGANDA
National Assembly (a) 126 Direct election. Simple majority
(b) 30 system. Of the 30 appointees, 10 are
specially elected MPs (by the party
with most MPs), 10 are nominated by
the President, and remaining 10 are
army representatives.
13. UNITED REPUBLIC
OF TANZANIA
National Assembly (a) 156 156 elected by direct universal suffrage.
(b) 75 Simple majority in single-member
constituencies. Of the 75 nominated
members, 15 are women elected by the
Assembly; 5 are elected by the Zanzibar
House of Representatives from among
its own members, 15 represent party
organisations, another 15 are appointed
by the President and the remaining 25
are ex-officio members (Regional
Commissioners).
14. ZAMBIA
National Assembly (a) 126 Direct election, universal suffrage.
(b) 10 Simple majority system in single-
member constituencies. 10 nominees
are appointed by President.
B. NON-COMMONWEALTH COUNTRIES
15. EGYPT
People's Assembly (a) 448 Party-list proportional representation
(b) 10 system with universal ballot. President
of the Republic appoints the 10 members.
16. GABON
National Assembly (a) 111 Election comprises 2 stages: Primary
(b) 9 election by indirect suffrage with
single nomination of candidate and his
substitute; followed by universal,
direct suffrage for candidates appearing
on a regional list which may not be
altered. Head of State appoints the
other 9 members.
17. GAMBIA
House of (a) 36 Elected by universal adult suffrage.
Representatives (b) 14 14 appointed members comprise 5
Chiefs (elected by the Chiefs in
Assembly), 8 non-voting nominated
members and the Attorney-General.
18. INDONESIA
House of (a) 360 Direct, general, free elections with
Representatives (b) 100 proportional representation based on
of the Republic of a party list system. 100 appointed
Indonesia members are nominated by the President
of the Republic.
19. KUWAIT
National Assembly (a) 50 Simple majority list system (2 seats
(b) 14 (Ministers) in 25 constituencies). Universal male
suffrage.
20. PHILIPPINES
National Assembly (a) 184 Direct election by compulsory universal
(b) 17 suffrage of 184 regional representatives
by simple majority. 17 Members appointed
by the President comprising 3 Cabinet
members and 14 sectoral representatives.
